An Original Piece of Musique Concrète

  1. Create an original piece of electro-acoustic music whose sounds are derived exclusively from the sound library you recorded as Lab Assignment. Your composition should be between 3 and 5 minutes in length, and should have at least three distinct sections, the first and last of which may be related.

Notes:

    1. You can re-record and/or expand the sounds in your library, provided that you stick to the assigned categories. However, please use only sounds that you have recorded yourself with a microphone. Do not use synthesized sounds, sounds downloaded from the web, ripped from CDs, or sounds from commercial sample or sound effect libraries.
    2. You are free to be as creative as you like in this project. Note, however, that your grade will be influenced by the extent to which you incorporate the concepts and techniques that have been emphasized in this course.
  1. Write a program note for your piece. It should describe the concept and form of your composition, and list the principal audio processing techniques used. It should end with a list of all the source sounds used from your library. Be sure to include your name and the name of your piece. Print a copy of this note.
  2. Create a data CD with the following items on it:

·                 A 16-bit, 44.1K stereo .wav file that is a complete rendering of your piece, ready for performance.

·                 The Cubase project file and all associated folders and audio files.

·                 The Source Sounds folder containing the original recordings and processed versions of your sounds.

·                 Your program note as a Word document or ASCII text file.

·                 Note: make a backup copy of this CD for yourself.

  1. Put your data CD in a paper sleeve or jewel case, place it and the printed program note inside a manila envelope with your name on it, and turn it in after performance at the final exam/class concert.
