UT Electronic Music Studios - Studio III

Recording from a Microphone

  1. Connect a microphone(s) to the microphone inputs of the 02R (the top row of XLR inputs).

  2. If you are using condenser microphones, be sure to turn on phantom power for the appropriate inputs.

  3. Make sure that the input signal for MIC 1-8 in the 02R is set to INT Analog. This is found by pressing the DIGITAL I/O button under the DISPLAY ACCESS part of the console.

  4. To route the signal from the mixer to one of the audio interfaces, you need to use one of the 8 bus outputs. To do so, select each channel that has a microphone connected to it, and in the SELECTED CHANNEL portion of the console you want to assign it to a bus. First, make sure that the main stereo bus is not selected (the red button labeled ST). Secondly, select the output bus that corresponds to the input in the software that you would like to record to.

For example, if I want to record a single microphone plugged into channel 1 of the 02R into ProTools or Cubase (Mac or PC), I want to set the output bus for channel 1 to bus 1.

  5. Keep in mind that the connection between the 02R and either computer is a digital connection.

  6. On the Mac only....
  7. In order to monitor the output from ProTools, you need to use the patch bay and connect protocols outputs 1&2 to two of the line input channels of the 02R. Be careful about feedback. Make sure that the studio level is turned off while recording and use headphones for monitoring.
