To play a session from Pro Tools through the O2R

To play tracks from a Pro Tools session through the Yamaha O2R mixer, it is not necessary to make any connections on the digital patch bay. This is because the digital outputs of channels 1-8 of Pro Tools are hardwired to input channels 1-8 on the O2R, via the AES/EBU interface card in the O2R's Card Slot 3. All that is necessary is to make sure that the O2R word clock is set to the same sample rate as your Pro Tools session and that the O2R "Mic 1-8" inputs are set to Card Slot 3 (not Analog) on the appropriate digital I/O page.

Specific instructions:

On page 1/5 of the digital I/O pages, set the word clock to Internal 48K or Internal 44.1K. (Cursor to the box and highlight, then press Enter.) Note that the Pro Tools Hardware Setup must be set for external (digital) sync.

On page 2/5 of the O2R digital I/O pages, make sure Mic 1-8 is set to Card Slot 3.

Hit the orange routing button to get to page 1/2. Make sure you are looking at the setting for MIC 1-24 and not the tape settings. The screen will say MIC in the upper right corner if you are looking at the mic settings.

Turn on input channels 1-8 and bring up the faders.

Turn on the stereo output master (red fader).

Set the control room setting to ST. CONTROL ROOM box on the right of the mixer.

Turn up the Control Room knob on the O2R.  Studio II only:  Select "External" in the monitor section of the Mackie board to hear the O2R control room outputs, or turn up channels 23-24 (caution:  +4 dB signals) on the Mackie board and set the input source on those channels to "tape" to hear the O2R stereo outputs.

Pro Tools output channels 1-8 should now be available at the O2R's input channels 1-8.
